Maximum legal increase
Know your rights

90 days' written notice

A landlord must tell you in writing at least 90 days before the lease ends if they want to change the rent. No notice = renewal on the same terms.

No increase in year one

Rent can't be raised during your first year in a property, regardless of the index.

Eviction needs 12 months' notice

To evict for sale or personal use, the landlord must give 12 months' notice via notary or registered mail. Disputes go to the Rental Dispute Settlement Centre (RDSC).

If the hike is illegal

You can reject it and, if needed, file at the RDSC for a small fee. The legal cap stands regardless of what the contract says.
